about

The midpoint- end of side A.

lyrics

I walked the ragged streets of Rome thinking today could be the day. I had a shiny bit of chrome, but even that has blown away. We said before they took our lives we'd make the ancient lanes run red. Now inspector Moreau's to dead to drive and I wish that it was you instead.

All of our days were wild and green. After the gloom came blessed light. Catherine arrayed was like a queen, I on the left and you on the right. She wasn't quite what you'd described but I never trusted what you said. Everyone's sorry that she died and I wish that it was you instead.

Now that your true face is revealed, I can't believe I was so wrong. Things that we hoped, we dreamed were real. Things that we real we dreamed were gone.

I had such rich and bitter tears when I was weak and played along. But, in the intervening years I've found my place among the strong. Mine is the thumb that winds your clocks. Mine is the hand that makes your bed. I slide my knife into your lock, wishing that it were you instead.
