Her Brother, He Gave Me Some Words To Remember

from Perpetual Spirals of Power & Pleasure by Wasted Wine

about

An epic story about love lost.

lyrics

Her brother, he gave me some words to remember
as he lay on his deathbed, in the bleak mid-December --
some words like a message you put in a bottle
and throw off an island out into the water.

Now, I had Her picture and I had Her name,
that was all,
but I had a promise to keep all the same.
So when the roll was called,
I was gone...

wind and tide... flags flew over my head...
Spanish wine... and my captain's face was red...
but in the stillness and fullness of time,
I arrived, I arrived, I arrived...

Oh, I first spoke Her name as a whisper,
in the stalls, in the stations and stores.
In a matter of days I was shouting,
in a matter of weeks I was poor,
but the blind, and the lame, and the wretched,
who I said were the least of the least,
spoke some wandering words in confession;
I was soon on a train heading east.

While the wheels were wailing I was wondering where I was,
why the world was whirling so, and where the hell She'd gone,
but while my will was wandering, on some snow-white mountain pass,
an engineer was drinking and a train ran off the tracks.
As I emerged unscathed, the engine's flames were growing higher,
so combed through the wreckage, and I pulled out one survivor.
Now there was something in her eyes that struck me as she shivered:
she didn't look much like Her -- so I fed the flames Her picture.

One moment stretched through time has brought the evening to her knees
and she whispers soft so I bend on down to hear.
Our children play so lonely in the shadows of themselves
and we look so real but find it hard to speak.
The windows been left open. shit the cat has stole again.
But we don’t mind we’ve got a lifetime to make up, before we wake up.

Sundays full of secrets when the pastors on the pull.
We nod our heads down lower than the pew that’s started to sink.
And your envious white dress has caught the fishermen off guard.
You serve them a catch and they complain of nothing but bone.
The light creeps in unwilling in fluorescent harmony
while the man in white reads the time and says “Hey son, it’s time to go home. I’m sorry, she gone.”

Ohh my darling
Ohh my love
You were never meant for this world
You were never meant for this world

Ohh my love
Ohh my baby
You will never make me whole
You will never make me whole
